In an effort to continually
assess and mitigate security risks, the eRailSafe committee
comprising all U.S. Class I Railroads*, have collectively agreed to
mandate the U.S. Federal Background Check as part of the security
components of the U.S. eRailSafe program. Federal Criminal
Background Checks report federal crimes that have crossed state
borders and are typically used to supplement County Criminal Record
Checks to provide a more comprehensive security assessment of an
applicant. The inclusion of the Federal Background Check report to
the eRailSafe package will change the application fee to $70.00 per
applicant** for those applicants processed through the eRailSafe
program effective May 1st, 2014.

*Authorization of the Federal Criminal Check for contractors assigned to BNSF Railway Company is pending final railroad review. Anticipated approved date is May 1, 2014.
**For applicants that hold an active Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card, eRailSafe will provide a rebate for the cost of the U.S. Federal Check.
